I’ve been holding out as long as possible but my time in Brazil has now been set in stone. I’ve booked my award travel in and out of the country. Leaving from Panama City, Panama on June 6th, I’ll fly through Buenos Aires, Argentina for a quick layover and then be on my way to São Paulo to see the opening ceremonies for World Cup 2014!
Lately I’ve been making the rounds on taking care of some of the more unexciting parts of planning for a trip, like getting stabbed with needles repeatedly. Super fun. So far I’ve been vaccinated for Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, T-Dap, and Influenza. I can’t wait to be done with all of these and I really hope that I get covered through my insurance so I don’t have to pay through the roof. For example, the rabies vaccine that I was prescribed costs $250 per shot and it comes in a 4 shot series. F that. I’m definitely not getting a rabies vaccine. Hopefully I don’t get attacked by a rabid black-headed spider monkey. I don’t trust monkeys at all… Just look at this guilty face.
The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.
At the end of February I’m starting a new chapter in my life. I will be quitting my job of 5 years to pursue an adventure that I’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade. Leaving loved ones behind, I’ll embark alone on a backpacking trip that starts in Guatemala and heads south to Brazil, where I will be for the entire 2014 World Cup. I’ll then venture into the unknown again as I explore other regions of South America.
I would love for you all to be a part of this journey with me. By following my blog, View From The Roof (link: VFTR), you can share in my experiences through photos, videos, and stories that I will post.
From the planning and packing stages, to the highs and lows of life on the road, all the way to my thoughts on returning home, I hope to give you insight into my adventure.
If any of you would like more information, please feel free to contact me via email at email@example.com.
